Well, despite the rhetoric from all sides, the Supreme Court nominiees ARE A POLITICAL ISSUE. Democrats definitely want THIS woman and not a conservative Hispanic Woman. Certainly hey would scream bloody murder if someone like Condi Rice were nominated. So the Dems do NOT want a "blind justice". They want one who will inject personal feelings into decisions -- which are SUPPOSED to be the realm of congress. But this is how the Democrats achieve more political power beyond the massive control they have in congress and which will cary over in the case of any future majority Republican congress. That is to say - the Democrats view the Supreme Court as a political ace in the hole for legislation from the bench. But that is how it is. Politics to the core. Republicans have ZERO chance to induce acceptance of a more "blind" justice. WE can always hope that her views will become more conservative over time as she sees the destruction in the liberal wake.

Bush was a lame duck weeks into his first term when the Vt senator switched sides. From then on the fiscal policy of the US was steered and finally controlled (second Bush Term) by the weak mortgage policies of Franks, Dodd, (later Obama) and more of the liberal left in congress. Today - we have a congress and president who were complicit in the mortgage crisis that crippled the US and world economies. Why? Because Bush was a lame duck from nearly day one and because Bush refused to steadily politically attack his liberal opponents in congress. It was not Bush policy that killed the world financial structure - it was Bush's failure to fight the liberal agenda. To some degree he gets a pass because post 9/11 - nobody wanted to push back hard against the free-wheeling cash flow that eventually formed the "bubble".
