BUSH was killing Old and young Americans because the flu vaccines were not getting out on schedule or in quantities needed. ....

Predictions of climate change
induced natural disasters falling flat
The shrill voice of extremism should be a flag for caution. IF indeed the issue was about CO2 the people pushing this weak theory would be massively behind nuclear power to create the electricity to run the millions of cars they want to run on electricity. They are not. So it is not the issue. The issue is about social justice AND the billions to be raked into selected investors pockets from the pockets of taxpayers worldwide. IT is a scam of HUGE proportions.
Your CASH for the CLUNKER
If you traded in a clunker worth $3500, you got $4500 off for an apparent "savings" of $1000. You could have gotten $3,500 if you had just traded the car in. So you really are $1,000 ahead (depending on your clunker's value) at this point. Not too bad... However, you WILL have to pay taxes on the $4500 come April 15th (something that no auto dealer will tell you). If you are in the 30% tax bracket, you will pay $1350 on that $4500. So, rather than save $1000, you will actually pay an extra $350 to the feds. In addition, you traded in a car that was most likely paid for. Now you have 4 or 5 years of payments on a car that you did not need, trading in a "clunker" that was costing you less to run than the payments that you will now be making. Even if you save $1,000. dollars a year in gas due to better mileage, you're still gonna be in the red for five years....hello? But wait, it gets even better: you also got ripped off by the dealer. For example, the month before the "cash for clunkers" program started, every dealer here in LA was selling the Ford Focus with all the goodies including A/C, auto transmission, power windows, etc for $12,500. because competition was stiff due to poor sales from the stalled economy. When "cash for clunkers" came along, they stopped discounting them and instead sold them at the list price of $15,500. So, you paid $3000 more than you would have the month before. Honda, Toyota , and Kia played the same list price game that Ford and Chevy did. Now let's do the math... You traded in a car worth: $3500 You got a discount of: $4500 --------- Net so far +$1000 But you have to pay : $1350 in taxes on the $4500 -------- Net so far: -$350 (that's minus...in the red) And you paid: $3000 more than the car was selling for the month before ---------- Net Loss: -$3350 We could also add in the additional taxes (sales tax, state tax, dealer prep, etc.) on the extra $3000 that you paid for the car, along with the Five years of interest on the car loan; but let's just stop here while you kick yourself. Suffice it to say that those costs will be much higher than any savings you get from "better mileage". So who actually made out on the deal? FEDZILLA collected taxes on the car along with taxes on the $4500 they "gave" you. The car dealers made an extra $3000 or more on every car they sold along with the kickbacks from the manufacturers and the loan companies. Manufacturers got to dump lots of cars they could not give away the month before. Lots of good or repairable used cars got taken off the market and sold as scrap metal to (ready for this?) CHINA! (Look it up...) And the poor consumer got saddled with even more debt that they cannot afford. FEDZILLA'S merry men (who promised that people making less than $250,000. would pay "not one red cent more in taxes") will make millions in new tax revenues after convincing Joe Consumer that he was getting $4500 in "free" money from the "government" In fact, Joe was giving away his $3500 car and paying an additional $3350 for the privilege. Chicago politics gone global...with an agenda. |

OK .. so why do we not have a full blown program to develop nuclear energy power plants so we can support electric cars and such? Because THAT is not where the money is for the investors in solar panels, corn ethanol and windmills - and who provide massive political support to the Party of Gore. It is about political power - NOT about saving "the earth".
F22 Raptor Demo Flight
The government cut funding for further production of this plane. Amazing technology but already the upcoming X-35 far outdoes this amazing machine and the choice was to move on forward regardless of potential for x-USA arms markets. Not sure if the government was shortsighted on this - or not. The roll of the fighter aircraft in future wars is somewhat foggy too. A consideral number of these were built but with no continuing program there is also question about future support for the existing craft.

Jack Webb Schools Barack
Well, the 400 year thing is off , but Webb gets the story right in general.
Labor Day
I think I have always had to work on labor day - except maybe a few times as a kid. I never got the drift of it much. As it often does - this time - it comes on my birthday and I don't recall many of my birthdays when I was not working for one reason or another. I'm retired now but my wife is expecting me to do some chores on labor day. Maybe I can convice her to go with me to a parade somewhere.
A lot of people work on labor day because it is a big day of income for them. I came to understand that the day was mainly created as a holiday for government and union workers. As a kid from a farm, I think some of my labor days were spent huckstering sweet corn or watermelons at the end of the season to people who were going to the beach for a big party. Late in the day we could go down to the creek and eat one of the remaining melons while enjoying the cold water on sunburned necks. "Rednecks" as it were.
But - somehow in the back of my mind is a picture of how labor day should be - and I hope it will become that way again sometime for someone else's imagination to ponder as they work that day.
Now - of course - there are so many people unemployed - who have time to reflect on the day to honor labor. I hope they are back in the economy soon and that they get some of those labor days off - with PAY !!
This was my response to friend MJT's blog in Jacksonville.com

Tea Pot Dome - THEN :: Obama - NOW !!
1. Cap and Trade - A tax program that Obama's supporters blindly believe will apply only to the "big oil and big utility" companies that use carbon based energy. Duh? The beneficiaries here are a. Goldman Sachs (you know - the company that the AIG bailout (under the Pelosi/Obama Congress) saved? and the company from which nearly all of Obama's financial commissars come from?) that has the trade concession on the assigned carbon units and b. Al Gore - who has enormous positions in the so-called carbon neutral "new energy" sources. The losers? The effective rise in energy costs across the board will destroy what little income the poor have at this point and put them further in the care of the government which keeps losing real tax revenue as tax paying businesses stagnate. The government can only pay for the new welfare overload by printing more money (more inflation).
2. Health Care Reform: A competitive but clearly Byzantine mix of doctors, hospitals, patients and insurance choices will be replaced by a NON competitive and clearly Byzantine mix of doctors, hospitals, patients and only ONE insurance choice. The only change? "Competition" is replaced with "no competition". What needed change? The word "Byzantine" for "efficient".
How to pay for this shift to non-competitive Government Care? Tax the leading providers of jobs in America - successful small business owners with a 15% increase in income tax.
Result? a. One million lost jobs mostly in the service industries that depend on part time and tip based employees. b. Rise in the cost of dining out and entertainment by as much as 50% to pay for the forced insurance on the remaining employees in these industries. c.Ultimately the poor will pay the costs anyway as fast food prices double and jobs are lost. (Short list - this list of lost jobs and increased costs that the poor will pay for goes into every facet of business and life).
3. Government Motors: Rather than allow the automobile companies go bankrupt and reorganize without the "unions" - Political payback was put into play. Where "TARP" was applied (Ford did not take it) - the Government became the primary owner and the "UNION BOSSES" became secondary owners. The retirees and pension funds depending on the Bonds loaned to GM and Chrysler were stabbed in the back to support the Union Bosses in the largest political payback from a presidential candidate in the history of America. The union bosses bought and paid for this president and the investment went quite well. Obama is the best president their money could buy. The Michigan Auto industry was destroyed by the UNIONS and government regulation over 40 years of poor policy and poor government strategy (state and national) that led to poor choices by management. This LOSING COMBINATION is now rewarded by the political payback and Detroit, Cleveland and Gary continue to lose jobs while they support their presidential choice of continued devastation - Obama.
....
These are just THREE of the many scandalous actions the Obama administration pursues. What is common to all is that the people he claims to help with his programs and policies are the very people who will be devastated with the "unintended consequences"( or is it INTENDED?). The people who voted for Obama and his supportive Democrat Congress are unable and/or unwilling to explore the real economic and social damage that will occur from the unabashed pursuit of money and power.

Dennis Gartman's Rules of Trading
I've seen these rules numerous times but have never posted them up. So, I have to give a hat tip to Todd Sullivan over at Value Plays for posting them up recently and reminding me of them again. If you are unfamiliar with Dennis Gartman, he writes the famed Gartman Letter. Taken from his site, 'The Gartman Letter is a daily commentary on the global capital markets subscribed to by leading banks, broking firms, hedge funds, mutual funds, energy and grain trading companies around the world.' He also talks about his trades/plays and walks you through his thought-process. We definitely enjoy his commentary and if anyone is a subscriber, let us know. To the rules:
DENNIS GARTMAN’S NOT-SO-SIMPLE RULES OF TRADING
1. Never, Ever, Ever, Under Any Circumstance, Add to a Losing Position… not ever, not never! Adding to losing positions is trading’s carcinogen; it is trading’s driving while intoxicated. It will lead to ruin. Count on it!
2. Trade Like a Wizened Mercenary Soldier: We must fight on the winning side, not on the side we may believe to be correct economically.
3. Mental Capital Trumps Real Capital: Capital comes in two types, mental and real, and the former is far more valuable than the latter. Holding losing positions"
Health Plan - New Taxes - Destroy the Poor
1. Provide a one payer health plan (the government) to compete with private industry and force costs down.
1a. Result: drives the 1300 private sector insurers (who are not competitive enough?) out of business and the government becomes the ONLY provider.
2. The cost of the program over 10 years is estimated at 2.5 $TRILLION.
2a. Result: This creates a huge - entirely new - hole in the budget that must be filled.Taxes Must be raised.
3. Revenue will be raised by new sales taxes (VAT taxes), Taxes on unhealthy foods like sugar (carbon) and higher cigarette taxes. The idea here is to reach a wider base of tax revenue from ALL spectra of society including the poor while encouraging better caloric intake among unhealthy eaters (mainly the poor). Note the pubic mantra of the "social reformers" is that they are only taxing the "rich". It is never close to enough revenue so stealth taxes like VAT and "Carbon Tax" are introduced.
3a. Result: The middle class and poor will lose another 10 to 20 percent (plus) of their disposable income to taxes on the foods they can afford, everything they can afford to buy to make their lives better. In effect, the VAT tax, the cigarette tax and the caloric tax (not to mention the "carbon tax" on energy) - are all aimed directly at the poor and the middle class who do not participate in the revenue support of income tax typical of high earners.
4. Print more money to feed the marketplace and stimulate more spending and pay for more government supported jobs for the continued unemployed and under-insured.
4a.Result: Flooding the economy with more dollars makes them worth less (inflation). So, in a way this adds another 10 - 20 percent (plus) "tax" on the poor and middle class. Let's assume the very wealthy have money management systems to protect their wealth from the ravaging effects of inflation (in most cases). But the cost of bread, milk, hamburgers and cars will rise since every dollar is worth less than it was before the "extra dollars" were printed.
5. With inflation - VAT tax, Sugar tax, Cigarette tax, and the energy "Carbon Tax" (cap and trade effect) - the Middle Class and Poor now have less disposable income to purchase the necessities of life. The few pleasures like a meal out at a fast food restaurant are more expensive.
5a. Result: Now the poverty level must be raised because it takes more money just to get by. More dollars must be printed and more taxes must be raised to create the funds to pay more "entitlements" for the retired, to the infirm, to the poor - to make up for the drop in the value of their money. Next step: SEE # 3 above - More Obama medicine.
6. Government jobs are created - troubled companies are purchased outright - to get more people off the "unemployment" rolls.
6a. Result: Private industry reduces output because the heavier taxes are slowing the purchases of goods by the middle class and poor. Private sector jobs continue to disappear. MORE important - the TAX REVENUE from the private industry companies and employees AND investors - dries up. Entrepreneurial people move to a cash economy and begin to operate under the radar of the tax system - government revenue drops even further. See #3 above - the Democrat solution - Raise taxes even more.
6b. MORE Results: Eventually there is never enough tax revenue to support all the government programs. Unending inflation and poverty destroy the retired, the middle class, the poor and last of all - the rich. The poor and middle class have fewer opportunities and progress upward is stymied. The spiral of lower government revenue - higher poverty - and desperation continues as the leadership continues to revert to step # 3. Health Care costs spiral ever upward as more and more people lose private sector options and depend on the government.
*** Study cities in the RUST BELT that have followed this strategy under Democrat Leadership for decades. They are now dead. Their industries are gone. Entire neighborhoods are boarded up. Some of the biggest supporters of the Obama Regime - like the unions - are now the co-owners (with the government) of the near-dead auto companies. Low tax - non union - right to work states like Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and Tennessee have taken the jobs - sadly with foreign owned companies - since the unions would not allow American car companies to relocate.
***************
The Republican Solution -- which has been completely blocked out since the majority Democrat Congress and now the Obama Administration.
.......................
1.REDUCE TAXES across the board ... (Democrats hate this because it fails to address their need to stimulate class warfare)
2a. This frees up more investment income among the investor class - They compete to produce more goods for the consumer class that includes the poor and middle class who benefit from expanded output and more choices and competing prices. The production requires more private sector jobs, most of which also produce revenue from income tax. More private sector revenue increases the tax revenue to the government - supporting the budget and in the best of times - paying down the debt. Unemployment drops. The number of insured goes up with more private sector employment. In short - MORE government REVENUE results from LOWER taxes across the board. The greater revenue responding from lower taxes is a resource to everyone - in health care - in food prices and availability and more. A consistent stream of younger poor keep moving out of the ranks of the poor to the ranks of the middle class and higher. The cycle of revenue production for the government builds on itself. It self perpetuates, benefitting all the people.
2c. Limit tort action against doctors and hospitals (this is the trial lawyer - ambulance chasing - suite happy lawyers who supported Obama and who along with unions are first in line for all Obama legislation scams. Obama and the Liberal Dems will NEVER reform tort laws which cause Doctors and hospitals to perform 10 times the tests they need to run and that force them to make decisions based on every lawsuit potential versus the individual needs of the patient. Example: They keep you in the hospital two days or overnight at least when not even needed just to check off one of the legal issues boxes which may have no relationship to your own case.

CAP and TRADE - how to tax the poor
The cap and trade tax is an automatic taxation of the poor and middle class based on whatEVER they consume. It will make them on average about $3100 poorer .. and here is the great part !! -- They will have no clue the pain is coming from the government. They will only see increased utility and gasoline bills and will blame THE MEAN OLD OIL AND UTILITY COMPANIES! It is a perfect Democrat tax.
The other stealth tax on the poor and middle class will come in the form of inflation. By dumping treasury cash into the economy - the government is feeding massive future inflation. That future inflation is the delayed TAX the poor and middle class will pay (along with the unpopular rich) and again the people losing the most buying power (the poor) will not have a clue the cause is the Democrat policy. They will see rising prices on all they buy as the fault of mean old capitalists stealing from them - not the policies of Democrats who printed too many dollars.
In a spiraling frenzy of "helping the middle class and poor" the Democrats will continue to OVERTLY tax the rich and COVERTLY tax the poor and middle class to keep the "masses" from taking to the streets.

Obama Tax "CUT"??
The magic of IGNORANT POPULIST news media perpetuates the lie. As the wealth is redistributed to the poor with inflation stoking budgetary spending - the gain the poor receive will be stolen back 10 times by inflation. Look for 6 pct in 2010 and 10 pct in 2011 and up from there.
The Cap and Trade TAX that the poor "think" is a hit against the mean old energy companies is going to come back to them in double and triple energy bills (gas, fuel oil, coal, electricity, shipping costs) that will also add to inflation. The biggest losers in the Obama Tax Cut plan will be the poor who will suck up the added energy costs by lost jobs ad higher electric, heating and gasoline costs DUE TO CAP AND TRADE TAXES.
Add to the lost jobs the private sector (government revenue) jobs that will disappear as the investor "class" shelters its funds away from business expansion. The poor will not know what hit them. In four years the press and Obama (the second largest recipient of AIG political donations as a senator) will STILL be blaming Bush.

INFLATION - a Tax on the Poorest
My own guess. inflation will kick in but probably delayed a bit as deflation continues.
Sometime in the next year to two years inflation will ramp up steadily.
INFLATION -- How to Tax the Poor and get away with it.
Interesting thing - inflation: It is a PERFECT way to tax the poor and they have no idea they are getting hit by the government -- they just think businesses are raising prices to make their life more difficult. This whole financial scenario is playing out with superb press for the Democrats - the whole time they destroy the poor and create a larger segment of poor population out of the middle class.
First -- Make sure banks are pushed to loan mortgages to people who are unable to pay them back and hold off any regulation that might cut into the executive class largess from the huge churning of cash. (Franks, Dashel, Obama, Reed --- Clinton and Carter)
Second -- Once the banks and then the WORLD economy are destroyed in the maelstrom and a hated Republican president is easily scapegoated - take control of the nations finances as if you had no hand in the massacre.
Third -- Create the most massive government expenditure "stimulus" pork program ever heard of with only a tiny portion going to private sector job creation and print up dollars as fast as possible. Put truckloads of cash into the marketplace. Let the ignorant actually think you are saving them with cash.
Fourth -- sit back and wait a year or two and enjoy the rise of prices across all spectra while the poor struggle to pay the new inflated rates for everything. A simple solution. The poor continue to believe you are the hero for pouring cash on them and they continue to hate business and capitalism because THEY are raising prices. You have taxed the poor and laid all blame on your opposition in government and on business and you are the hero.
Democrats are geniuses. Rebublicans are stupid. (when it comes to taking power in government).

Who Built the Financial Mess
Profile In Incompetence
Jimmy Carter became our 39th president at the young age
of 52. He was a one-term governor from Plains, GA, where he
managed the family peanut farm and taught Sunday school. He
was also a graduate of the Naval Academy and served seven
years in the Navy, leaving as a lieutenant.
He came to power in the aftermath of the Vietnam War and
the resignation of President Nixon. The public wanted change
and someone new, and Carter was an ambitious, hands-on
politician who promised better days. As good as his
intentions were, however, the things he tried were not
successful. In fact, he created far more serious problems
than he ever solved.
The centerpiece of Carter's foreign policy was human
rights, and he did achieve one noble success - a peace
treaty between Egypt 's Anwar Sadat and Israel 's
Menachem Begin.
Unfortunately, that later led to Sadat's assassination
at the hands of Muslim radicals.
Many people felt Carter was a good man who worked hard
and meant well. But he was naive and incompetent in handling
the enormous burdens and complex challenges of being
president.
He wrongly believed Americans had an 'inordinate fear
of communism', so he lifted travel bans to Cuba, North
Vietnam and Cambodia and pardoned draft evaders. He also
stopped B-1 bomber production and gave away our
strategically located Panamá Canal .
His most damaging miscalculation was the withdrawal of
U.S. support for the Shah of Iran , a strong and longtime
military ally. Carter objected to the Shah's alleged
mistreatment of imprisoned Soviet spies who were working to
overthrow Iran 's government. He thought the exiled
Ayatollah Khomeini, being a religious man, would make a
fairer leader.
Having lost U.S. support, the Shah was overthrown, the
Ayatollah returned, Iran was declared an Islamic nation and
Palestinian hit men were hired to eliminate opposition.
The Ayatollah then introduced the idea of suicide bombers
to the Palestine Liberation Organization, paying $35,000 to
PLO families whose young people were brainwashed to kill as
many Israelis as possible by blowing themselves up in
crowded shopping areas. Next, the Ayatollah used Iran 's
oil wealth to create, train and finance a new terrorist
organization, Hezbollah, which later would attack Israel in
2006.
In November 1979, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and other Iranians
stormed the U.S. embassy in Tehran and took 52 Americans
hostage for 444 days. Not until six months into the ordeal
did Carter attempt a rescue. But the mission, using just six
Navy helicopters, was poorly executed. Three of the copters
were disabled or lost in sandstorms. (Pilots weren't
allowed to meet with weather forecasters because someone in
authority worried about security.) Five airmen and three
Marines lost their lives.
So, due to overconfidence, inexperience and poor
judgment, Carter undermined and lost a strong ally, Iran,
that today aggressively threatens the U.S., Israel and the
rest of the world with nuclear weapons.
But that's not all. After Carter met for the first
time with Soviet leader Leonid Brezhnev, the USSR promptly
invaded Afghanistan. Carter, ever the naive appeaser, was
shocked. 'I can't believe the Russians lied to
me,' he said.
The invasion attracted a 23-year-old Saudi named Osama
bin Laden to Afghanistan to recruit Muslim fighters and
raise money for an anti-Soviet jihad. Part of that group
eventually became al-Qaida, a terrorist organization that
would declare war on America several times between 1996 and
1998 before attacking us on 9/11, killing more Americans
than the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor .
On Carter's watch, the Soviet Union went on an
unrestrained rampage in which it took over not only
Afghanistan, but also Ethiopia, South Yemen, Angola,
Cambodia, Mozambique, Grenada and Nicaragua. In spite of
this, Carter's last defense budget proposed spending 45%
below pre-Vietnam levels for fighter aircraft, 75% for
ships, 83% for attack submarines and 90% for helicopters.
Years later, as a civilian, Carter negotiated a peace
agreement with North Korea to keep that communist country
from developing nuclear weapons. He also convinced President
Clinton and Secretary of State Madeleine Albright to go
along with it. But the signed piece of paper proved
worthless. The North Koreans deceived Carter and instead
used our money, incentives and technical equipment to build
nuclear weapons and pose the threat we face today.
Thus did Carter unwittingly become our Neville
Chamberlain, creating with his well-intended but inept,
unrealistic and gullible actions the very conditions that
led to the three most dangerous security threats we face
today: Iran, al- Qaida and North Korea .
On the domestic side, Carter gave us inflation of 15%,
the highest in 34 years; interest rates of 21%, the highest
in 115 years; and a severe energy crisis with lines around
the block at gas stations nationwide.
In 1977, Carter, along with a Democrat Congress, created
a worthy project with noble intentions-the Community
Reinvestment Act . Over strong industry objections, it
mandated that all banks meet the credit needs of their
entire communities.
In 1995, President Clinton imposed even stronger
regulations and performance tests that coerced banks to
substantially increase loans to low-income, poverty-area
borrowers or face fines or possible restrictions on
expansion. These revisions allowed for securitization of CRA
loans containing subprime mortgages.
By 1997, good loans were bundled with poor ones and sold
as prime packages to institutions here and abroad. That
shifted risk from the loan originators, freeing banks to
begin pyramiding and make more of these profitable subprime
products.
Under two young, well-intended presidents, therefore,
big-government plans and mandates played a significant role
in the current subprime mortgage mess and its catastrophic
consequences for the U.S. and international economies.
Hardest-hit by the mortgage foreclosures have been the
citizens that Democrats always claim to help
most-inner-city residents who fell victim to low or no
down payment schemes, unexpected adjustable rates, deceptive
loan applications and commission-hungry salespeople.
Now we're having to bail out at huge cost Fannie Mae
and Freddie Mac, the very agencies that were supposed to
stabilize the system. In time, this should improve the
situation. But the party of Carter and Clinton that midwifed
our mortgage mess now wants to be trusted to take over and
have the government run our entire system of health care!
Don't forget his "incompetent" interventions
in the elections of Nicaragua (Daniel Ortega), the elections
of Venezuela (Hugo Chavez) and his "stupid"
decisions with Cuba (Fidel Castro).
This should shed some light on where the blame should go
for our current problems .
