Unca Vic can't play with the whole market but he does watch it some. The above stocks are being eyeballed a lot and may deserve your attention too. WCG, V, EDU, LFC, EWZ. The chart above is a 12 month look to 06-08. For the young investor, Visa (V) is probably one of the best you can get. Just buy it and wait 5 years - buy more over time. MA (Master Card is just as good and has been on the market a year or so longer). Never chase a price - look to buy when they have normal dips. (V was great two days ago) EWZ is falling off some recently due to oil prices starting to cool some. EWZ is an ETF that has several international oil companies in its holdings. ETFs are kind of like mutual funds but without the hassle.

Veterans Group Dissolves
The amazingly historic US Navy - South China Yangtze Patrol is long ago relegated to history. Now the veterans of that fleet, many of the survivors of the first early battles of WWII in the Pacific are closing out their association. A blog and some websites continue to offer their stories. The sign off in the letter was telling. "See you at the slop chute at the old Whangpoo". Farewell, heroes.

Oil price insight
This gives a lot of insight to the fluctuation of oil prices over time. Note the chart of the dollar vs euro vs oil/gold. This fellow expects another 8 - 10 years of increasing oil prices before some of the new technologies and sources begin to kick in. personal note: The Global Warming "Hype" will drive a lot of inefficient technology at the expense of practical alternatives. My personal view is that nuclear and solar energy will take the proper lead in alternatives to carbon based energy .. and they should. Vic
