Middle East Correspondent

Matt Settle provides another report from the Middle east.

Well another week and one less week to go. As I was thinking about what to write this week, I first thought that not much really was going on. On second thought, I went to a concert, found another Christmas gift idea, and had my leg amputated and guts hang out from an explosion (it was a drill). ;-)

The concert was at Camp Arifjan the other day and was quite nice. It consisted of the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders, Keni Thomas, Al Franken, Leeann Tweeden, The Washington Projects, Mark Wills, and Darryl Worley. All the singers were good. I am not sure I appreciated the Washington Project as much as the younger crowd but I also think the younger crowd didn’t appreciate the country music like I did. One thing is for sure we all RELLY like Leeann Tweeden and the Dallas Cowboy cheerleaders. J Actually, Leeann and Al Franken did some very funny skits and the cheerleaders came on stage in the Burka (long black robe) before the two removed it to show their outfit. It was a lot of fun just to get out and do something a little different for a change. By the way, BMO is short for Black Moving Object. Anyway, the four of us from the watch section had a great time but then paid the price the next morning after our mid-watch was over. Hey, I guess sleep is over rated. We can all sleep when we are dead. (THIS REPORT CONTINUES UNDER "COMMENT" LINK UNDER THIS POST)

OK, so now for that Christmas Idea. A few of you had said that you would have bought the last one (52inch plasma screen TV for the new people) but could not figure how to ship it. Well, I found another idea and it is available over here so the shipping problem does not hold any water with me. J

As you can see in the picture it is already wrapped and think of how safe I would be riding it over here. It would beat the mule by a slight bit on the comfort scale. Also, it has a heater something that we need around here now and the mule does not have. Just think how fast I could make it to watch. Driving in and out of the VERY safe driving Kuwaiti’s around here. By the way, we almost hit one head on this morning coming back from watch. I guess he thought he was in o more of a hurry than we were. We had to pull over on the side of the road to let him by. So, the car, it is a particle gift.

Now for the amputated leg and guts hanging out of my abdomen: Actually, it was during a drill at one of our checkpoints. I got to play the bad guy and victim. I got pictures but it was with some other person’s camera. It was cool. I was laying there trying to get the Medic to give me morphine for the leg. Needless to say, I lost. He won. He strapped me to a stretcher and left me laying there. J

Well, I need to get going. I have to fill up my coffee cup and get ready for another mid-watch. Sleep all day and work all night is not my idea of fun. I can only do it with LOTS of coffee. Which some of you have sent to me out here. I thank you dearly. It helps keep the whole watch section awake and witty just like me. J Yea, they hate me when I drink too much coffee as well. I start looking for thinks for them to do. I got so bored a couple of night this week that I went out and stood some other guys watches. The section thought I was crazy but actually, I now know what they have to do on some of the positions that I have never been out to. It is difficult to lead a group when a person is not sure of their duties or hardships.

So I will close out another week here in Kuwait. Please keep all of us in your thoughts and prayers. Just think, only one more week until Christmas. Do me a favor; take time to tell the ones you love how much they mean to you during this holiday season. Take care and be safe. GO CHIEFS beat the Chargers!
