A McCain Dialogue

I am placing a recent dialogue about McCaine into the "COMMENTS" link just under this post. McCain has good qualities and also some huge liabilities from the point of view of conservatives. But IMHO - he may be the eventual candidate to against Hillary in 2008. Anyway it will be interesting to watch unfold.

well, the libs seem to have convince you that r's are 'big money' people. i guess that is a success for their propoganda. most good surveys show the DEMS as the most monied of the contributors to party causes. Weak-kneed is not always the case. I thinkyou are a bit high on the conservative ration in congess. Further - pork barrel politics (a staple of our system) tends to water down any parties fiscal restraint.
It is nice to take a stand - and a firm stand can rarely work. Usually the whole system requires compromise to get anything close to what you might want. Compromise is not always weak-kneed -- but a reflection of pragmatism. You want zero? or you want 20% of the goal ... or 40% ? or what?

Best system I came up with so far is to eliminate voters and free press and run the country MY WAY - myself. I think I could be happy with that.
not sure about anybody else though.

Yes but there are fewer liberals than conservatives (from 1/3 to 1/2 as many) but they get almost everything they want. Why? Because they push for three times what they really want and "compromise" with weak-kneed Republicans to get what they wanted in the first place. Most Republicans, being from a big money background, are intimidated by liberals and cave in during negotiations. Others, like McCain, are more interested in pandering to liberal newspaper editorial writers than Republican Primary voters -- one reason why he will never be the GOP candidate. Rick S.
